Bonhams New York Fine Watches Timepieces With Visible Movements and Special Dials Achieve Strong Results

New York - Bonhams presented New York Fine Watches on June 9-16, 2025, a curated online sale on Bonhams.com . The top lot was an Audemars Piguet, Quantième Perpétuel Automatique, reference 25736PT, circa 1990's. The platinum automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phases and mother of pearl dial, is fitted with the iconic Caliber 2120/2800, one of the world's thinnest automatic perpetual calendar movements at the time of its debut in the late 1970s. The watch sold for US$165,600 against a pre-sale estimate of US$12,000-18,000.

The 91-lot sale featured sought after modern timepieces including a collection of exceptional skeletonised tourbillons with their intricate design, visual appeal and specialised escapement mechanisms that reveal the intricate components of the watch, presented alongside aselection of elegant watches with exquisite, handcrafted enamel dials. The online sale featured timepieces from prestigious makers such as Audemars Piguet, Breguet, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe, Rolex and Vacheron Constantin . The sale made a total of US$1,725,426 with 87% sold by lot and 99% sold by value.

Another notable lot was an Audemars Piguet Quantième Perpétuel Automatique, reference 25668PT, circa 1990s . Designed with a skeletonized dial and movement that highlight the intricate caliber movement of meticulously hand-engraved and open worked movement, visible through both the sapphire dial and case back. The exquisite platinum automatic skeletonised perpetual calendar bracelet watch with moon phase, is a rare and sought-after model among collectors.

The watch is sold for US$102,100, over six times its pre-sale estimate of US$15,000-25,000. Nate Borgelt, Bonhams Head of Watches department in America, commented : "We are delighted with the results of the New York Fine Watches sale that presented a collection of timepieces from the world's most storied makers. The sale included timepieces that were a true celebration of craftsmanship and creativity offering best in class examples from vintage pieces such as the Rolex Padellone 8171 circa 1950, to the most technically ambitious watches with skeletionized movements, tourbillons, perpetual calendars, and stunning dials made of special materials. These watches have become a cornerstone of collecting, resulting in fierce bidding within the horology community."

Other notable sale highlights included:

• AGirard-Perregaux, minute repeater tourbillon with neo bridges, reference: 99820, circa 2017. The unique and limited-edition titanium manual wind skeletonized minute repeating tourbillon wristwatch sold for US$95,750, over double its pre-sale estimate of US$40,000-60,000.

• A Rolex 'Padellone', reference 8171, circa 1950s, automatic calendar wristwatch with moon phases . The iconic vintage Rolex is known for its triple calendar and moon phase complication sold for US$64,000 against a pre-sale estimate of US$40,000-80,000.

• ADaniel Roth, Papillion, 10th anniversary, circa 1999. The rare, limited edition 18K rose gold automatic jumping hour wristwatch was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Daniel Roth. The watch with two tone silvered dial sold for US$58,880 against a pre-sale estimate of US$3,000-5,000.

• A Breguet Classique, reference 3355, circa 2010. The platinum manual wind skeletonised tourbillon wristwatch sold for US$56,320 against a pre-sale estimate of US$30,000-50,000.

• An Urban Jürgensen, reference 8, circa 2000s, 18K rose gold automatic calendar wristwatch. The watch features the essence of the brand with its 37mm diameter stepped rounded case, teardrop lugs, silvered guilloché dial, and blued steel observatory hands and sold for US$38,400 against apre-sale estimate of US$15,000-25,000.
