LOS ANGELES — Christie’s is honored to present Eye Contact: An Invitation to the Pinault Collection, a special exhibition on view at Christie’s Beverly Hills gallery beginning February 12. The exhibition will showcase visions of portraiture created in an array of mediums by eight contemporary artists: Luc Tuymans, Marlene Dumas, Llyn Foulkes, Pope L., Jim Shaw, Cindy Sherman, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, and Thomas Houseago.

The exhibition comprises both an indoor component of selected artworks on loan from Pinault Collection, as well as an outdoor component of a group of sculptures on the upstairs terrace by Los Angeles based artist Thomas Houseago. The full exhibition has been curated by the Pinault Collection team.More than half of the artworks in the Collection address the subject of human figuration, and an expression of human complexity is expressed in selected works. The portrait genre is reimagined by this group of artists. The study of the figure has been the subject of a recent series of exhibitions organized by Pinault Collection.  It is Christie’s honor to continue to celebrate this theme in the current Los Angeles exhibition.

This event holds profound symbolic significance, and we are proud and grateful for this opportunity.”François Pinault’s collection is regularly exhibited in its three museums in Venice and Paris and in partner institutions around the world. The Collection comprises more than 10,000 artworks ranging from the art of the 1960s to the present day. It is one of the largest and most important contemporary collections worldwide.

Christie’s is proud to have a home in Los Angeles, and to support the city’s vibrant arts community. In the wake of tragic wildfires, Christie’s has donated to the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund, the Los Angeles Food Bank, and the Getty’s LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund to aid recovery operations and support the victims.
