Paris - Christie’s, a reference in the luxury handbag market in 2024, is delighted to present its Handbags Online: The Paris Edit Featuring Unlocking the Orange Dream Part II sale. Taking place from April 15 to 29, the sale will present more than 280 exceptional handbags, mainly by Hermès, as well as iconic pieces by Chanel, Vuitton and Dior.

The sale will feature the second part of Unlocking the Orange Dream: Handbags from an Important Private Collection. Following last November’s success with €2.6million in total sales , this collection offers anew series of more than 50 Hermès handbags, including rare and iconic models. Unlocking the Orange Dream: Part II showcases genuine examples of Hermès craftsmanship and innovation. The handbags on offer include the Tropical Faubourg Birkin 35 (€32,000 - 38,000) which is alluring with its vibrant jungle-inspired colors, evoking adventure and freedom. The Kelly en Désordre is a bold reinterpretation of the iconic Kelly bag (€20,000 - 24,000), while the One Two Three and Away We Go Birkin 25 (€18,000 - 24,000) by Nigel Peake celebrates the marriage of form and color. The Tuffetage Birkin 25 (€15,000 - 20,000) – a masterpiece of engineering – embodies the excellence of craftsmanship.

Referring to the collection, Lucile Andreani, Head of the Handbags Department EMEA notes: “A celebration of bold design and exceptional craftsmanship, this collection offers collectors a unique opportunity to acquire some of the most coveted pieces in the world of handbags.”

To complement the collection, the sale will feature a unique selection of handbags, combining contemporary creations and iconic designs. The pieces presented for the first time at auction include: the Porosus Crocodile Midas Kelly 25, enhanced by a yellow gold insert on the handle (€200,000 - 300,000); and the Faubourg Day Birkin 20 (€100,000 - 130,000) – a nod to the Hermès boutique’s display windows. They both illustrate the exceptional nature of this sale. The selection is completed with the Sherling Kelly 20 – a unique blend of luxury and comfort; the mysterious So Black Kelly 35 (€16,000 - 20,000) – a monochrome masterpiece; as well as the Picnic Birkin 25 (€35,000 - 45,000) and the elegant Mini Constance Doré (€15,000 - 20,000).

Faubourg Tropical Birkin

Unlocking the Orange Dream part II Introduced by Hermès in 2021, the Birkin Faubourg Tropical is a bold and innovative reinterpretation of the famous Birkin bag. Designed by Octave Marsal and Théo de Gueltz, it combines a rare and elegant Toile de Camp fabric with white Swift leather. Its hand-embroidered Lunéville stitch brings sumptuous tropical motifs to life.

Inspired by the luxuriance of the jungle, this handbag evokes a sense of escape and wild beauty. A veritable fusion of nature and exceptional craftsmanship, it embodies the timeless elegance and unrivalled expertise of Hermès.

The Birkin One, Two, Three & Away We go by Nigel Peak

Unlocking the Orange Dream part II Created in 2018, the Birkin 25 One Two Three and Away We Go is the result of a collaboration between Hermès and designer Nigel Peake.

Inspired by Le Sens de l’Objet initiative in 2017, which explored the convergence of craftsmanship, functionality and aestheticism, this model revisits the Birkin bag with adynamic graphic aesthetic. Its design, a mix of lines and vibrant colors, evokes both a sailboat carried by the wind and the Grand Roue de la Concorde Ferris wheel. Combining traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary vision, this limited edition is a rare and prized collector’s item.
